The Guards at Steele's Opera House

The Rifle Guards appear, with drawn bayonettes, in the 800 block of Front Street in front of Steele’s Opera House. The opera house was located on the second floor of this building which stood on the north side of Front Street, about where Belk was situated in 1978, and which is now Augustus and Carolina. A dispensary operated on the first floor to the right, and a dry goods store to the left. The building was just down the street from Atkinson’s Meat Market.
