Hobcaw Barony was once a number of plantations with man-made rice fields lying adjacent to the freshwater Waccamaw River. Hand-dug canals, such as this one, allowed for movement of barges in the subdivided marsh.
One of the former rice fields at Kinloch Gun Club. The club composed of thirteen former rice plantations and totaled over 9,000 acres on the North Santee River.
