Carlisle Hall, the first dormitory for Wofford College, opened in 1912. The building was named in honor of James Henry Carlisle.

This Italianate building was the first built on the Wofford Campus in 1854. It was designed by Charleston architect Edward C. Jones. The building has been renovated a number of times.

President of Wofford College, Dr. Henry Nelson Snyder (on the left), is pictured with W.D. Sullivan of Tumbling Shoals, South Carolina. Mr. Sullivan was the only remaining survivor of the freshman class of 1854, and he attended the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the college’s opening. That celebration took place October 18th and 19th, 1929.
